IIJOEN TUKKILAUTTA 2023
Viime keväänä tehty lautanlasku oli niin jännää hommaa, että päätettiin tehdä se uudestaan ensi keväänä. Laskumiehet on lähes kaikki samat. Lautta rakennetaan saman kokoiseksi mutta nyt mäntytukeista ja ensimmäisen laskun kokemuksista todetut parannustarpeet huomioiden.
Tukkilautta lasketaan sunnuntaina 21.5.2023. Lähtö Kaistonsuvannolta tapahtuu klo 11.00 ja yleisölle varatun katselupaikan kohdalle Maalismaassa saavumme noin klo 11.45, joskin virtausolosuhteet ja tuuli voivat aikaistaa tai viivästyttää saapumisaikaamme.
In spring 2022 a team of voluntary men build a traditional type log raft and on the 22nd May 2022 sailed it through Maalismaa rapids of Ii river of Finland. The raft was build from spruce logs legth being 10-11 meters. The total length of the raft was rouhgly 23 meters and width about 8 meters. Totally about 70 pcs logs were needed and the total weigth of them, measured by trucks crane, was about 25 metric tons.
The logs were tied together with manila ropes and birch stems, not a single steel part (bolt nor nail) was used. The steering oars (called veslas) were from barked spruce and carved to blade shape on their outer end.
Although the raft front end dived through the waves in rapids, the travel of the raft was very stable. When the raft was dismantled, it was found that the raft had suffered no damages of any kind during its journey.
Next spring the raft project will be redone. The raft has same size but was partly build from pine logs this time and structually improved noting the findings of the first raft.
The raft will be sailed on Sunday May 21, 2023.
